H. Carl McCall’s first meeting as chairman of the SUNY Board was a busy one.
The Board appointed Harvey G. Stenger Jr. as the 7th president of Binghamton University. Stenger has been interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University at Buffalo since April. He’ll be on campus Monday.
It also adopted a timeline for the review of the Campus Alliance Networks between SUNY Morrisville and SUNYIT, SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Delhi, and SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam. Each pairing of campuses will submit a progress report by July 15, 2012, and include a recommendation as to whether independent presidents, a shared presidency, or some other leadership structure, would best achieve the goals of the network.
The Board also approved SUNY’s 2012-13 Budget Request, which includes an increase in state support for community colleges of $205 per full-time equivalent student each year for the next five years – an appropriation that would bring state support back to the one-third level.
Finally, the Board appointed six faculty to distinguished ranking – the highest system honors conferred to SUNY faculty – and appointed Brian Hutzley as Vice Chancellor for Financial Services and Chief Financial Officer and William F. Howard as Secretary of the University.
