Angelo Mazzone

Angelo Mazzone is an entrepreneur, educator, visionary, and family man.  He has taken advantage of his education at Hudson Valley Community College and Schenectady County Community College to build a hospitality empire in Upstate New York, and now gives back to the College in a handful of ways, including offering experiential education opportunities to students.

Following graduation from SCCC (1974) and, subsequently, University of New Haven in Connecticut, Mazzone returned to New York to jumpstart his career.  He saw rapid promotions in multiple positions before testing his entrepreneurial skills through acquiring management and catering of a local restaurant.

Mazzone now leads Mazzone Hospitality in the Capital Region of New York, where his company operates a dozen high-end restaurants, such as Angelo’s Prime Bar and Grill and Angelo’s 677 Prime.  Mazzone routinely looks to the Schenectady County Community College students and community to effectively sustain the Mazzone brand.

President Obama Presents Medal of Technology to UB Alumnus

UB alum Norman McCombs with President Barack ObamaSUNY attracts the best and brightest scholars and our 3 million alumni are helping shape life in the 21st century. Take, for example University at Buffalo alum Norman R. McCombs, who developed an oxygen production system that spawned a billion dollar industry and helped ease the pain of millions suffering from lung diseases. Recently, President Barack Obama presented the National Medal of Technology and Innovation to McCombs at a ceremony held at the White House.

Take a Risk. Start a Company. Launch a Social Enterprise.

It takes hard work and guts to transform a great idea into a viable business or community organization, but University at Buffalo students are doing it every day with support from the university. Each of the entrepreneurs profiled below endured long hours and surprising obstacles to succeed. None regretted it.

 

Eric Reich, J.D. and MBA '02, and Michael Weisman, MBA '01Two childhood friends, Eric Reich, J.D. and MBA ’02, and Michael Weisman, MBA ’01, turned UB’s $25,000 Henry A. Panasci Jr. entrepreneurship award into a $40 million company.

Their idea: to build a data-centric company that helps colleges and universities decide how to best allocate resources, recruit and retain students and improve student success.

Their company, Campus Labs, has more than $10 million in annual sales and more than 650 higher education clients. Years of hard work were realized when Connecticut-based Higher One Holdings acquired Campus Labs for more than $40 million in August.
