If you follow along, we recently explored SUNY Alumni In Television and Movies This Semester to great acclaim! So, naturally, it is time to highlight talented SUNY alumni in music. This fits perfectly with the start of Round I of Music Madness, which pits 13 of some of the top musical artists in the SUNY system against each other to discover who is the voters’ favorite SUNY star.
Of those who have attended a SUNY school before this year’s Music Madness contestants, many have been awarded impressive recognition around the world. From single-man/woman bands to complete rock groups, the lineup of 10 Musicians That Made It Big After SUNY may surprise, intrigue, or confirm your beliefs about them!
While at JCC, Ms. Moore studied nursing and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, serving as president from 1996 to 1997, and represented JCC as a Phi Theta Kappa international delegate in 1996.
During her time at the College, Ms. Moore was named recipient of the Carnahan-Jackson Scholarship, Seager Presidential Scholarship, Jamestown Community College Trustee Award, and was named a JCC Alumni Nurse of Distinction Award in 2012.
Moore continued her education and earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at The Johns Hopkins University in 2001 and a master’s degree in clinical research management at the University of Maryland in 2010. Last year, Moore earned national recognition as a designated certified clinical research professional.
In her current position, Ms. Moore audits clinical research conduct at the University of Maryland, manages the data safety monitoring quality assurance committee at the Greenebaum Cancer Center, and is a frequent presenter on clinical research management issues. In her “free time”, she is an actress – appearing in films, commercials, and television series.
When Jamestown Community College decided to announce the redesign of its logo, they wanted to do something that went beyond the standard approach. Sure, there would be a press release, and a big event to unveil the new design. But how many students read press releases? How could they let students know about the new logo? More importantly, how could they get them to care, to get excited about the new logo?
SUNY Mascot Madness is all about SUNY engagement; students, fans, alumni, and community members rally together to boost their favorite SUNY mascot up. But what’s the reasoning behind two hundred thousand votes cast in 2013?
As we approach the end of this year’s competition (which you still have some time to vote in if you haven’t already), we compiled the best mascot quotes from their profiles to explore the differences in personalities between the mascots. After all, who would have otherwise known that some North Country mascots have a longing to meet? Or how each of the 30 mascots joined their SUNY campus? Just like SUNY students, our mascots are diverse, energetic, and passionate!
As the cost of a college degree keeps going up, more and more people find themselves asking if it’s even worth it to go to college. Why bother? Why spend the money?
At Jamestown Community College‘s November 18 Open House on the Jamestown Campus, we decided to ask several college students and high schoolers why they were making the decision to go to college. The responses we got back were varied, including the standard, but usually not so bluntly stated, “Because I want to move out of my parent’s basement and move on with my life” to the more unexpected “Because I want to become one of the few women engineers and boss around all the men” and “Because I don’t want to live in a box.”
