The NCAA Division III Management Council announced this month that Alfred State has been accepted as provisional members. The announcement moves Alfred State into NCAA DIII competition starting in the 2013-14 school year.
Director of Athletics Dr. Daryl Arroyo is excited with the NCAA announcement. “The move to NCAA Division III is a necessary transformation for Alfred State and Alfred State athletics. This is a positive step in Alfred State’s growth as we provide a four-year intercollegiate athletic experience to our student community. Considerable planning has gone into this transition, with much support from the college administration. Funding, staffing, and facility improvements have begun to ensure that Alfred State is prepared to successfully compete in NCAA Division III.”
SUNY Oneonta is one of three schools featured in this month’s NCAA Division III Special Olympics Spotlight Poll. Each story highlights a Division III and Special Olympics joint activity or event. The institution whose story has the highest number of votes on the 25th day of each month receives $500 to use for its next Special Olympics event.

It’s no secret that the men’s and women’s basketball teams of SUNY Albany had monumental seasons. The Danes made history as both the men and women each won America East Conference titles earning their “Chance to Dance”, the first time both teams qualified for the NCAA tournament in the same season.
The men’s team earned their spot after they defeated Vermont 53-49; the women’s team after their 61-52 victory against Hartford at Albany’s SEFCU Arena. Both teams created great stories and memories from their post-season runs.
