The Undergraduates’ Bucket List (2013)

The Undergraduate's Bucket List - 2013

Was college everything you wanted or expected it to be?  My years at college flew by and it’s hard for me to believe that graduation is only a month away.  Samantha, Generation SUNY intern, asked if I accomplished everything I wanted to during college.  ”Have you eaten enough ramen noodles to be considered a stereotypical college student or walked on the UAlbany podium so that the steps equate to seconds standing in a wind tunnel?”

To answer this question–what, really, should every undergraduate student at SUNY do while an undergrad–we set out to compile a list of “must-do’s”.  The list topics are pretty open-ended so that each may be accomplished during any semester at college.  Do you agree with what we have?  Did we miss anything?  Let us know in the comments!

So, for all those who are graduating this year and those who see it approaching in the coming years… we present The Undergraduates’ Bucket List!

8 SUNY Campuses Named for Top “Green Ratings”

SUNY campuses named for top green ratings

As the nation gears up to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, SUNY is once again recognized for its outstanding commitment to environmental conservation.  The Princeton Review, in collaboration with the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), this week salutes eight SUNY campuses among the 230 most environmentally responsible “green colleges” in the United States and Canada.

“SUNY’s commitment to an energy-smart New York and to sustainability throughout our system is a critical component of our strategic plan, one that our campuses have widely embraced and consistently shown leadership on,” said SUNY Chancellor Zimpher. “Congratulations to the eight SUNY campuses listed in the 2013 Guide to Green Colleges. This recognition is much deserved and highly commendable.”

The eight campuses named show due diligence in their environmental efforts day after day: Continue reading

Oswego State - Johnson Hall at sunset in spring
When I visited SUNY Oswego as a prospective student, it was one of my first times heading out to Western New York. It was mid-October and I had to wake up especially early to make the nearly three-hour drive in order to arrive at the College by 9 a.m. for my tour of the beautiful campus. But what did not wake me up was coffee or donuts from the Tim Horton’s between exits 28 and 29; it was the snow!

As soon as we passed Utica, it began to snow. And snow. And snow some more. Needless to say, when we arrived at SUNY Oswego, the city was completely covered in snow. It was almost as if I was in my own world though, because every single person in Oswego functioned as if this happened every day. (Does it?)

According to all of our college brochures, SUNY campuses are filled with sun, Continue reading

ICYMI: The Best SUNY Mascot Madness Responses

All 30 mascots who participated in SUNY's innagural Mascot Madness

SUNY Mascot Madness is all about SUNY engagement; students, fans, alumni, and community members rally together to boost their favorite SUNY mascot up.  But what’s the reasoning behind two hundred thousand votes cast in 2013?

As we approach the end of this year’s competition (which you still have some time to vote in if you haven’t already), we compiled the best mascot quotes from their profiles to explore the differences in personalities between the mascots.  After all, who would have otherwise known that some North Country mascots have a longing to meet?  Or how each of the 30 mascots joined their SUNY campus?  Just like SUNY students, our mascots are diverse, energetic, and passionate!
