The first ever SUNY Mascot Madness tournament was truly a hard-fought battle. By all measures, the championship match could have been ruled a tie. The matchup had been close throughout the week, often with less than 200 votes separating the two teams.
The campaigning by both finalists was intense! All through the final week, we caught glimpses of Hugo around campus, hanging out with the students at New Paltz and doing some spring cleaning. Wolfie was no stranger to making public appearances as well, including marching (or rather dancing) in a local St. Patrick’s Day parade.
So who’s this year’s winner…?
As Mascot Madness winds down, we wanted to take the opportunity to check in with our mascots and see how they feel during this last round of competition. Hugo the Hawk from New Paltz and Wolfie the Seawolf from Stony Brook took some time out of their busy schedules and answered a few questions for our dedicated Mascot Madness followers.
This is a nerve-racking time for these seasoned professionals. Hugo and Wolfie have been keeping busy cheering on their teams, and they are used to highly competitive games. But, they have been running neck and neck throughout this round. Over the life of the competition, these mascots have racked up a combined 44,000 votes in the first four rounds. It’s not too late to late to learn more about them and vote for your favorite. You can vote in the Championship Round through Thursday, April 4 at 12:00 PM.
Read on to find out their thoughts on the competition to this point.
