Walter

  1. Where are you from?
    Herkimer County
  2. How many teams do you represent?
    19
  3. How were you chosen to be school mascot?
For my energetic character and ability to lead
  4. Do you have any friends that are mascots?
Yes, one of my closest friends is the SUNYIT Wildcat. We became fast friends at the Mohawk Valley Regional Showcase last year.
  5. What is your favorite campus event?
Graduation!!! It is the ultimate feeling of PRIDE!
  6. What is your favorite food?
Whatever they’re serving at the concession stand!
  7. What is your favorite television or movie animal?
Secretariat—an inspiration and a true champion, much like my beloved Herkimer Generals!
  8. What do you like to do for fun?
    March in parades of course.
  9. What’s it like to be a mascot?
It is like leading an army of fans & I am their General...literally.
  10. What do you consider the ideal fan?
Someone who shows undying support and pride for the Generals.
  1. Where are you from?
Where all the giant blue predatory cats are from, duh – the secret science lab located deep below SUNYIT’s 800 beautiful acres of land.
  2. How many teams do you represent?
Officially 12, but I’ve always considered myself to be sort of a “Wildcat Pack of One,” so you could say 13.
  3. How were you chosen to be school mascot?
I ate all the other candidates in a Hunger-Games-style survival exercise. The SUNYIT Administration believes in a highly competitive hiring process – it’s why they’re the best.
  4. Do you have any friends that are mascots?
I like to keep work at work, so not really. Not sure if you’ve met many other mascots, but they can be a pretty rowdy bunch. Every now and again I’ll grab a deer or a couple sheep with my cousin at Cazenovia, but honestly, like many SUNYIT students, when I have a night off I prefer to spend it playing Halo with my computer science study group.
  5. What is your favorite campus event?
I know they’d want me to say “Wildcat Weekend,” but truthfully? Thursday Night Bowling League (our team name is the WIIIILDcats).
  6. What is your favorite food?
Morrisville Mustang, braised with just a hint of lemon.
  7. What is your favorite television or movie animal?
Hands down the Lemur King from Madagascar. What an actor – I saw him do stand-up once before he made it big and it was pure genius.
  8. What do you like to do for fun?
I know it’s clichéd, but I’m just a simple wildcat: I like chasing weak or sick animals, laying in that one small spot of sunlight that comes through the skylight in the living room, and posting under an alias to farm animal message boards to say things like “You know, I heard there’s this whole beautiful world outside the farm gates; in fact, my cousin Carl said we can easily hop the fence and just go wandering in the “wilderness” for a few hours if we like. He even said it’s best if we all just “split up” and go exploring for a couple of hours.” (And yes, “cousin Carl” is another one of my aliases).
  9. What’s it like to be a mascot?
It’s great, but the morning commute is tough. I’m all for the eco-friendly stuff, but you try cramming into a Honda Civic when you’re 8-feet tall and weigh 600 pounds. And Janice wonders why I’m cranky every morning when I get to the office. But I love my job, and it’s rewarding to know that most days I’m the biggest reason why a little tech school in Upstate New York is still “cool.”
  10. What do you consider the ideal fan?
Anyone who doesn’t shake that darn blue thing that I keep chasing in circles but can never catch. I swear it’s like this campus is full of magicians.
