Beginning Monday, November 26, SUNY will be pinning stories of giving, service, and kindness originating from each of our 64 campuses and the communities that these schools are a part of.
With over 467,000 students, SUNY consistently takes advantage of the opportunity it has to be a significant impact in communities across New York State. The 30 Days of Giving campaign is a great way to recognize students and community partners involved in the many projects that happen all year round at each SUNY campus and their surrounding communities. The byproduct of taking volunteerism to scale is not only building character in our students themselves as they join our over three million alumni, but also to set an example of impact as the nation’s largest university system.

Day 3
Upstate Medical University
The first SUNY Upstate Medical Student Volunteer Day was Saturday, Sept. 8. It involved 150 students, faculty, numerous businesses and physicians as sponsors, and nine volunteer sites. The day provided students the opportunity to spend one afternoon working on projects that will have long-term, tangible impacts for nearly a dozen charitable organizations in Syracuse.
In addition to helping community organizations, the day brought classmates together and gave medical students from different classes a chance to get to know each other.
Fulton-Montgomery Community College
The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture, also known as FM’s Gaming Club, held a bake sale fundraiser with the aim of supporting Lexington, an agency that provides services and programs to children and adults with disabilities in Fulton and Albany Counties. “Our motivation to donate to Lexington was based on the fact that many gamers have some form of physical or mental disability, as well as learning disabilities,” said Club President Jay Chapman.
Chapman told Lexington Foundation Executive Director Wally Hart that the Club has heard many good things about Lexington and the Club members have come to appreciate the wonderful and positive impact Lexington is making in the community. “As members of this community, we value and treasure the services and support you offer to our family, friends, and neighbors. Please accept our donation as thanks for your hard work, compassion and dedication to our people,” said Chapman, as he presented a check for $140 to Hart.
