Educational Opportunity Centers Are Providing Life-Changing Opportunities to New York State

Imagine this: you’re a young soon-to-be high school graduate. You’re looking forward to going to college next year—the stepping stone to your career of choice. But circumstances in life make college out of reach.

For so many people, this is a reality, and it’s not the only reason why 6.9 million New Yorkers have never had a college education. Many struggle with graduating high school, let alone college. It’s no secret that it’s tough to get a job without any kind of degree or certification.

The path to higher education is not the same for everyone. That’s why SUNY is working to create solutions and build educational opportunities for adults who lack a degree. SUNY’s Educational Opportunity Centers, run through the University Center for Academic and Workforce Development, provide endless opportunities for upward movement in the workforce. Whether your goal is getting to college, finding a job that will support your family, learning a new trade, completing high school equivalency, or improving your English as a non-native speaker, EOCs can provide you with the tools you need to achieve that goal.

With over 10,000 students enrolled at ten EOC locations last year, it’s clear that EOCs are building up communities all over New York State. And with dozens of programs to choose from, an EOC can be anyone’s first step to changing their life and contributing to their community.
