SUNY Geneseo’s sixth annual Teddy Bear Toss raised 650 donated toys and more than $200 on Dec. 2 at the men’s ice hockey home game.
Sponsored by SUNY Geneseo Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Knights ice hockey team, the Teddy Bear Toss encouraged those in attendance at the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena to make a difference by throwing a new or gently-used stuffed animal onto the ice following the Knights’ first goal of the game.
Students brought their own toys to donate or bought one at the game from SAAC. All the donations will be split between the charities Focus on the Children, Catholic Charities of Livingston County and the Livingston County Department of Social Services.
“Events such as the Teddy Bear Toss help bring our close-knit Geneseo community together,” said senior Liz Doherty, SAAC president. “The sight of hundreds of bears and toys flying onto the ice as the Knights celebrate their goal was truly a special moment. As we say, the toys will brighten the ‘Knight’ of a child.”
