Each year, the Salvation Army, in Dunkirk, New York reaches out to the local community regarding their holiday programs.
For the past four years at SUNY Fredonia, the Office of Volunteer and Community Services, in conjunction with Enrollment Student Services, have participated in and provided sponsorship in the Angel Tree Program as well as the Adopt-a-Family, programs which help provide clothing and toys to children and families in need
Around this time each year, children in the Dunkirk and surrounding communities find themselves in need come holiday season. Over 150 impoverished families in Northern Chautauqua County have benefited from these programs through the Salvation Army. The programs are primarily based on the families with the greatest need.
Thus far in 2018, Volunteer and Community Services in coordination with Enrollment Student Services have collected over 115 items which include a variety of toys and winter clothing that they will be able to provide to children and families throughout the area.
