30 Days of Giving 2021, Day 22: Corning CC Forms Bonds With Campus Cleanup Event
On Thursday, October 7, more than 100 members of the SUNY Corning Community College community – consisting of student-athletes, faculty, and staff – volunteered in the CCC campus cleanup event. Coordinated by the CCC Department of Athletics, the volunteers removed debris and picked up trash throughout campus.
According to an article written in CCC’s student newspaper, The Crier, volunteers consisted of students, faculty and staff from several CCC departments and athletic teams. This included:
- Student Life
- The Student Executive Association Board
- Men’s and Women’s Basketball
- Women’s Softball
- Men’s Baseball
- and Student Volunteers
The event was coordinated by the CCC Department of Athletics in order to give back to the campus community and participate in bonding activities outside of gameplay.
“I loved it honestly, [there’s] a lot of good effort being pushed forward to making campus a better space,” Men’s Basketball coach Isaac Bushey said in an interview with The Crier regarding the cleanup.
Not only did players connect on deeper levels within their own team, but student-athletes and coaches were able to connect with other campus members by simply weeding gardens and removing waste around CCC.
Even with the vast array of campus participants, one common interest bonded them: Taking pride in CCC being their college campus.
