JJ The Jayhawk:

  1. Where are you from?
Jamestown, NY, though I also split my time between Dunkirk and Warren, PA.
  2. What do you do to get pumped before a game?
I meditate until I enter into a trance-like state. It’s a state of extreme focus and gives me the ability to perform tasks I normally wouldn’t be able to in my normal state of consciousness. In short, I become a warrior.
  3. What is your favorite snack?
    Rodents. It’s a guilty pleasure.
  4. Who is your biggest SUNY rival?
Jax the Jaguar and the teams on our Cattaraugus County Campus. We’re all part of the same college, but teams from each of our campuses play against each other. Those games can get pretty intense, since they’re for college-wide bragging rights. It’s definitely a friendly rivalry, but you absolutely want to win those.
  5. How do you stay in shape?
Thanks for noticing, man! I was starting to get some flabby feathers and a bit of a gut, so I figured I should work on just getting healthy, you know? It’s hard work, but it’s good to see that it’s paying off. But to answer your question, this temple is courtesy of Chuck Norris’ Total Gym.
  6. What do you do in your spare time?
Hah, what spare time? Supporting all of our different teams keeps me pretty busy, and then I have all of my other appearances around campus. When I do get a chance to relax, I prefer to get away from it all and go to my perch at the highest point on campus. It helps me put things in perspective and get my head straight.
  7. What is your favorite TV show?
Game of Thrones! Anything that reps birds is alright by me. Jon Snow all the way, because birds have to stick together, even if it’s just people calling themselves crows. R+L=J, anybody?
  8. What’s the greatest aspect of being a Mascot?
I love walking out on the court and hearing all of the fans start to chant your name. It still gives me a rush, even after all these years.
  9. Name a place that you would like to travel to.
    Nationals.
  10. What’s the best part about being from New York?
It’s hard to pick one. I love flying over Niagara Falls seeing the water come crashing down. It’s awe-inspiring.

Jax The Jaguar:

  1. Where are you from?
Olean, out towards the western end of New York state.
  2. What do you do to get pumped before a game?
I listen to Cat Scratch Fever and Eye of the Tiger on a continuous loop for the hour leading up to the game.
  3. What is your favorite snack?
Catnip. Enjoyed in small doses, it’s delicious. You definitely don’t want to eat too much, though.
  4. Who is your biggest SUNY rival?
The Jamestown Campus. It’s a friendly rivalry, but when we play them we pull out all the stops to win.
  5. How do you stay in shape?
It’s this new diet I found where you only feed on the hearts of the enemies you’ve slain. You gain their strength, and the heart muscle is surprisingly lean, though you wouldn’t know that from the deep, rich taste!
  6. What do you do in your spare time?
I like to go prowling in Allegany State Park, which is right next door. It’s gorgeous out there, and it helps me reconnect with my wild self.
  7. What is your favorite TV show?
The Bachelor/ette. I know I get called catty, but holy cow, I don’t have anything compared to the people on these shows. This isn’t even gender-specific, the men on the Bachelorette can get pretty nasty too. Still, I just love the drama. A little catnip and the Women/Men Tell All special and I’m set for the evening.
  8. What’s the greatest aspect of being a Mascot?
Everybody loves you and you get to meet so many awesome people. Seriously, being the mascot, I’ve had a chance to meet some truly spectacular people, from JCC students to awesome faculty and staff members. And being a six and a half foot tall cat is the best ice-breaker in the world.
  9. Name a place that you would like to travel to.
Narnia, so that I could meet Aslan. I’ve always wanted to meet him. He’s a hero. When I was growing up, I had a poster of him hanging in my den.
  10. What’s the best part about being from New York?
It’s hard to pick one. We’re out in the foothills of the Appalachians, and we have so much natural beauty surrounding us. It’s wonderful to get out into the woods and reconnect with nature. Plus, I can then use my cat-like reflexes and mad hunting skillz to catch small game...when in season, of course.
