The Aspen Institute has named 5 SUNY schools as part of the nation’s top 120 community colleges, making them eligible to compete for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. The 5 SUNY schools recognized are: Broome Community College, Finger Lakes Community College, Genesee Community College, Hudson Valley Community College and Jefferson Community College.
The Aspen Prize was established by the Aspen Institute – an international nonprofit organization. The purpose of the Aspen Prize is to recognize community colleges with outstanding academic and workforce outcomes in both absolute performance and improvements over time. By focusing on student success and lifting up models that work, the Aspen Prize will honor excellence, stimulate innovation, and create benchmarks for measuring progress.
The finalist community colleges will now compete for the 2013 Aspen Prize for Community Excellence. In March 2013, the prize winner and four finalists will be announced. The winner will receive $600,000. The other finalists will receive smaller amounts.
