My name is Serah Shahar and I’m excited to be joining the SUNY Office of New Media as a social media intern. This fall I will be starting the final semester of my undergraduate career at the University at Albany. My major is Business Administration with concentrations in marketing and finance and minors in economics and communications. For the past two years I’ve worked as a Resident Assistant on campus, which has been an incredibly valuable experience. I also serve as a campus representative on the Sustainability Council and volunteer as a peer educator in Project SHAPE (Sexual Health and Peer Education).
My interest in social media extends far beyond personal use. As a marketing student at SUNY, I am interested in different ways to reach and engage people via social media, especially those in the SUNY community. I’ve previously worked as a public relations intern for an integrated marketing communications agency in Albany, which initially piqued my interest in the business-oriented use of social media. I am eager to help expand SUNY’s social media presence as well as contribute to a blog that shares fascinating and relevant news with such a large audience.
The past three years that I’ve spent attending the University at Albany have been the most challenging, dynamic, and rewarding years of my life. As I approach my December 2015 graduation, I am sad that I will be leaving but determined to make the most of my last semester – and I know that joining the New Media team will give me some much needed experience before I graduate!
