College rankings continue to come out before the 2017-18 academic year. We’ve seen The Princeton Review provide their best 382 Colleges and CNN/Money rank the Best Colleges for Your Money. Now we turn to Forbes, who have just released their list of America’s Top Colleges for 2017.
In its 10th year, the Forbes list focuses on what students get from their college experience. Since admissions standards and test scores only tell part of the story, Forbes tends to favor elements like alumni salary, graduation rate and student satisfaction. So for the 2017 rankings, they continued to focus on those variables. However, “part of the methodology and some of the data sources have been reexamined and revamped to better align this list with what FORBES values most: entrepreneurship, success and the consumer experience.” That gives us a basic metric equation of:
- Post-Graduate Success – a high-paying or high impact-career (35%)
- Student Debt, or how little students carry with them (20%)
- Student Experience – retention, opportunities, and community & academic life (20%)
- Graduation Rate – The overwhelming majority can only realize the value of college after graduating (12.5%)
- Academic Success – advancement to higher degree programs or academic awards and achievements (12.5%)
Full details of the methodology can be found online at Forbes.com.
