SUNY Erie Community College Culinary Arts students did their part to help out the Kidney Foundation of Western NY. This organization addresses the needs of community awareness and patient support in western NY centered on kidney disease. The Kidney Foundation hosts a variety of events through the year to raise funding and awareness.
This November, ECC students competed in the Great Western New York Kidney Bean Cook-Off. Here they were required to create recipes using kidney beans as one of the ingredients, with one catch – no chili! It was a challenge they were ready to take on. After a night filled with fun, creativity and tasty treats, celebrity guest judges awarded the teams for their fan favorite dishes! Overall, this was a unique service-learning challenge to benefit the Kidney Foundation of WNY and those suffering from kidney disease in the area.
