The first-ever Day of Service was held at SUNY Potsdam on Oct. 21. The college challenged students and alumni alike to give back through volunteer service both in the North Country and in graduates’ home communities across the state and elsewhere.
There were 21 different official service projects organized by students and alumni, doing everything from sorting donations of winter clothing, to unpacking items at a food bank, to cleaning up local parks and cemeteries, to walking dogs and painting rooms at animal shelters.
Locally, more than 100 students, alumni and staff members volunteered to assist with projects in the Potsdam area. For those who couldn’t make it to one of the official sponsored project sites, alumni were also encouraged to give back through service to a cause in their area. Participants wore their SUNY Potsdam Bears gear and shared photos of their volunteerism via social media, using the College’s hashtag, #PotsdamProud.
SUNY Potsdam wanted to give students and alumni different paths to help their community based on their passions.
