Value is defined as “the importance, worth, or usefulness of something.” When it comes to college, the importance of higher education is evident in the fact that those who earn a college degree earn significantly more in their lifetimes and find many more job opportunities throughout their careers. When it comes to measuring value in college, there are a number of sources who provide a study annually that helps gauge the value of a college experience.
New for 2019, Kiplinger has released their Best College Values list in which nearly 1,200 public and private four-year colleges were evaluated based on how the publisher defines college value — “a high-quality education at an affordable price.” Of these colleges, the top 400 are selected and ranked based on competitiveness, graduation rate, academic support, cost and financial aid, student indebtedness, and salary yardstick, with quality criteria accounting for 55% of total points and cost criteria accounting for 45%.
This year, 14 of SUNY’s four-year state-operated colleges and universities were featured on Kiplinger’s Best College Values list:
- Binghamton University (#14 Top Public School)
- SUNY Geneseo (#39 Top Public School)
- SUNY New Paltz
- SUNY Oneonta
- Purchase College
- Stony Brook University
- University at Buffalo
- SUNY Cortland
- SUNY Fredonia
- University at Albany
- SUNY Plattsburgh
- College at Brockport
- Farmingdale State College
- SUNY Potsdam
These schools are consistently recognized among the best in the nation in a myriad of categories. To provide the best value is proof of the hard work that goes in to ensuring all students get the best college experience possible.
“The value of a SUNY degree is reflected by the high quality, individualized education each of our students receive at all 64 of our campuses, as well as the resources made available to help students succeed,” said SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson. “Congratulations to the schools being recognized by Kiplinger, who continue to provide opportunities to students to better themselves through higher education.”
Being featured on this list reinforces the notion that a SUNY education is a world-class education.
