It is important to remember that even a single, selfless gesture can mean the world to someone else. Whether you pick up litter around your neighborhood, volunteer your time to a local charity, or simply check in on relative you haven’t spoken with in quite some time, you’re doing your part to make this holiday season all the more joyous for those around you.
Once again, Columbia-Greene Community College and the Columbia-Greene Community Foundation have teamed up to make giving back even simpler. With the 31 Days of Giving calendar, C-GCC and the foundation aim to promote an entire month of good deeds by actively encouraging students, faculty, staff, and local community members to follow along each day, participating in and sharing acts of kindness with the hashtag #CoGreeneCares on social media.
Joan Koweek, executive director of the Columbia-Greene Community Foundation, explained that the 31 days of Giving calendar invites anyone and everyone to give back to the community and pay it forward in myriad small ways, ranging from a meaningful hug to hours spent in service to those in need.
“The ultimate goal of this event is to urge everyone to involve themselves in community service, volunteerism, and general acts of compassion,” said Koweek, “We can all make the world a better place, one step at a time. Why not begin by taking a look at the calendar?”
Across SUNY, students, faculty and administration alike are coming together to in the spirit of charity and togetherness. 30 Days of Giving is our annual tradition, which starts on Thanksgiving every year, where we reflect on efforts of the past year and highlight some of the selfless acts of that members of the SUNY community are leading.
