The Radiology Club at Westchester Community College, advised by Professor Hildy Oberstein, promotes professionalism of students who are preparing to join the healthcare industry. Every semester the Radiology Club reaches out to the community.
This year, COVID-19 has affected everyone’s life, with the Latin community being significantly impacted. Families may be financially struggling. Individuals may be ill and unable to work, and many have lost a job due to the pandemic. To support our local community, the Radiology Club collected non-perishable food, clothes and toiletries, and donated it to the Ossining Hispanic Parents Association (OHP).
The OPH Association works to unify the Hispanic community and assist those who are in need. Radiology Club Officers Laura Castaldo (President), Mersades Nigl (Treasurer), Sasha Wakeford (Vice-president), and Estephania Soares (Secretary) organized and collected items, while being mindful of social distancing and the need for PPE. The Club appreciates the support from Glenetta Phillips, Center for Career Education and Applied Learning; and Elizabeth Sloat from The Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, and Nutrition Department.
The items collected were donated by the WCC Food Pantry and Feeding Westchester. Students and faculty of the Radiologic Technology Program are grateful to be able to serve our local communities.
