Now in its 17th year, the annual SUNY Orange Adopt-a-Family campaign had to adapt this year to the restrictions of the on-going pandemic.
Since 2003, college faculty, staff, and students have been working with local non-profit organizations to adopt less-fortunate families during the holidays. Over that time, SUNY Orange’s Adopt-a-Family program has helped a total of 2,922 individuals in 814 families with gifts and grocery support, which are normally distributed through local schools and organizations.
This year, to minimize direct physical contact between volunteers, local organizations, and families, all donations were provided as gift cards, so that each family could directly purchase gifts and groceries.
Despite most students, staff, and faculty learning and working remotely, a grand total of $5400 was raised to help 54 families!
