The Loop for Good, a sustainability and technology initiative at the Fashion Institute of Technology, was founded in 2019 by a committee comprised of students from various majors. The driving premise is Loop for Good is that gift items can be earned via used clothing swapping or giveaway, and it also serves as a learning lab where students develop entrepreneurial skills like team management, product development, event planning, and performance analysis.
In 2020, as a result of the pandemic, the Loop for Good’s gift swap moved online, along with its learning lab, which now provides holistic and immersive experiences in sustainable fashion practice, accessible from any location. Projects this year included fashion mask development, 3D button printing, and a wearable LED brooch kit—all of which are for sale. The Loop for Good also features a 3D avatar fashion show, workshops, and videos on upcycling and styling, a digital art installation, and giveaway raffles.
Focused on emerging technologies, numerous external organizations and academic departments at FIT have collaborated with the Loop for Good to showcase different areas of fashion through student and professional projects.
