This fall, the Hispanic Heritage Month Committee and Rockland Community College coordinated two neighborhood cleanups in collaboration with local organizations and companies.
During the first cleanup, RCC students and employees partnered with Veolia and Hackensack Riverkeeper to clean up local streets and waterways, specifically Lake DeForest in neighboring Clarkstown, NY. Both organizations provide advocacy and action to develop environmental solutions to increase sustainability around the waterways of New York. The second cleanup took place at Spring Valley Memorial Park, located just minutes from campus, in collaboration with Keep Rockland Beautiful. The cleanups provided opportunities for the RCC community to join with local community members to clean and protect the environment in neighboring areas around campus.
RCC is proud to be a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). Each year the College community celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a variety of activities and events, some of which, like the cleanups, are focused on giving back to and supporting the community.
