Through the month of October, the Niagara County Community College Office of Student Life spearheaded a month-long calendar of events to raise awareness for breast cancer with students and staff. In addition, they hosted several fundraisers to benefit Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY.
These fundraisers included a pink shirt sale, basket raffle, and a chicken dinner. With the support of students, faculty, and staff, the NCCC Student Development Office was able to raise $1,540 for the cancer center.
The highlight of the month was on October 24 when NCCC hosted “Shoot for a Cure” at the Hyde Park ice rink where the NCCC Thunderwolves Club Hockey Team took on the University at Buffalo Bulls. During the second intermission, captains of the hockey team helped make a presentation of a giant check to Roswell Park Cancer Center for the $1,540 raised. Throughout the entire night, the arena was full of students and staff who were sporting their pink t-shirts in honor or in memory of loved ones fighting breast cancer.
