As part of FIT’s Civility Week, students, faculty, and staff volunteered at God’s Love We Deliver (GLWD). GLWD delivers free, nutritious meals to people who can’t prepare their own food. Each year at GLWD, nearly 20,000 volunteers prepare or package nearly 4 million meals that help more than 12,000 people obtain healthy meals. This work helps to lower healthcare costs and lessen the number of hospitalizations and reduce readmittance rates, creating a healthier community.
This year, members of the Fashion Institute of Technology community volunteered in the kitchen preparing and packaging meals with GLWD.
Best of all, they didn’t do it alone! FIT volunteers ran into actor Hugh Jackman while working in the kitchen. The actor worked with the students and was nice enough to take a picture with the group, turning their community service efforts into a memory they won’t forget.
FIT’s Civility Week is an initiative aimed at engaging the community in discussions and activities to address what can be done to promote respectful ways of living and learning.
