At Herkimer County Community College, the student-led Active Minds Club makes strides to educate peers about mental health, as well as connect them with important resources. Active Minds Club has been incredibly involved in the community this semester.
In October, students Nataly Portillo Hernandez and Kendra Walker volunteered at the Herkimer County Humane Society’s adoption clinic held at the Tractor Supply Co. store in town. They even had the opportunity to spend some quality time with Linus, one of the many dogs up for adoption. Linus found his forever home that day with the help of Herkimer students!
In addition to the adoption work, Active Minds also organized a donation drive on campus that collected pet care goods for the area Humane Society.
Active Minds is the nation’s premier organization promoting mental health awareness and education to young adults across the country. With volunteers all over the country, Active Minds hopes to reduce the stigma related to mental health once and for all.
