Staff and students involved with SUNY Poly‘s Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) frequently participate in community projects. One fantastic example from this semester was their participation in the local Harvest on the Hill Candy Drive/Event in October.
Ahead of the event, the EOP program collected candy across campus with many clubs, staff, and students donating to the cause. They wound up with a huge bin of candy to hand out at the event which was on James Street in Utica, NY on Saturday, October 28. During the event over 2,000 children and parents were able to stroll down James Street in a safe and family friendly environment to “trick or treat.”
Many local businesses, schools, law enforcement, public servants, and non-profits set up tables at the event to hand out candy. 2023 marked the eighth year of the family-favorite event. In prior years, SUNY Poly’s EOP has collected candy for the event, but Director of EOP and Multicultural Affairs Melissa Prest noted that it was especially inspiring to have a presence at this year’s rendition, which the program plans to continue in the years to come.
