Outdoor activities are good for the body and mind, and New York’s beautiful scenery is a great place to do them. Faculty and staff at Jefferson Community College (JCC) provided their community with more ways to get outside when they presented twenty newly-built children’s bicycles to a local non-profit organization, Encompass Recreation. The organization focuses on providing inclusive recreational opportunities for young people with higher support needs.
The bikes were built by JCC employees in an entertaining, team-building activity during Professional Development Day at the college. Faculty and staff broke into groups and played trivia and games to earn credits to redeem for bicycle decorations, which they then used to put custom, unique touches on the finished bicycles.
JCC president, Dr. Daniel Dupee, said, “It’s important to set aside time each year for professional development and to build rapport with colleagues with whom we may not interact regularly. I think everyone felt good about what we did today.”
