Welcome to the Generation SUNY Blog

A university system of our great size generates a lot of activity—whether it’s the latest achievements taking place on each of our campuses or new developments that affect the entire system. We’re an educational powerhouse, and we’re important contributing members of nearly every community in the state.

Did you know that 93 percent of New Yorkers live within fifteen miles of a SUNY campus? In many communities, SUNY is also the region’s largest employer. And with our 64 campuses, more than 465,000 students, 88,000 faculty and staff, and more than 2 million living alumni, we are the country’s – and the world’s – largest comprehensive university system. That’s something to talk about.

Up to now, however, there has never been a vehicle to give the many members of the SUNY family the big picture of what we do, in real time, literally as our story unfolds.

With this blog, we hope to deliver that “big picture” – with a new immediacy and shared sense of involvement. All of the diverse members of the SUNY family – from students and alumni to staff and supporters – have so much to be proud of, so much to learn from one another. We want this blog to be a place for discovery and connection; a mouthpiece for SUNY’s mission.

We also want it to be a vehicle of accountability. SUNY has made a pledge of transparency to its many stakeholders, and we foresee this blog as a tool to promote transparency. It will be the premier destination to see how SUNY works and how the system and its individual campuses are meeting their goals.

One last thing – this blog is not a one-way communication; it is an ongoing conversation. What will keep this conversation vibrant and exciting is your input. Let us know what’s going on in your corner of SUNY and what you think of the many happenings beyond it. This is your blog, and SUNY – all of SUNY – is your university. We want to hear your voice.
