Erin Coon is a community member, leader, and advocate. She was recently named the Executive Director of the Charles R. Wood Theater in Glens Falls, NY–the same city that one of her alma maters, SUNY Adirondack, is located.
Ms. Coon attended SUNY New Paltz to earn her Bachelor’s degree following her attendance at SUNY Adirondack in high school, then returned to the North Country to refresh her business skills at SUNY Adirondack more recently. For two years before being named the Executive Director, Ms. Coon was the theater’s operations manager after completing an internship with Adirondack Theatre Festival, a group that the theater continues to host.
The Charles R. Wood Theater is a 30,000 square-foot community facility with a theater, rehearsal hall, and reception area that hosts year-round art events. As the nation gears up to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, SUNY is once again recognized for its outstanding commitment to environmental conservation. The Princeton Review, in collaboration with the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), this week salutes eight SUNY campuses among the 230 most environmentally responsible “green colleges” in the United States and Canada.
“SUNY’s commitment to an energy-smart New York and to sustainability throughout our system is a critical component of our strategic plan, one that our campuses have widely embraced and consistently shown leadership on,” said SUNY Chancellor Zimpher. “Congratulations to the eight SUNY campuses listed in the 2013 Guide to Green Colleges. This recognition is much deserved and highly commendable.”

SUNY Chancellor Zimpher announced this month that 13 SUNY campuses have been named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, which recognizes colleges and universities who achieve meaningful, measureable outcomes in the communities they serve throughout the nation and show a clear commitment to community service and service learning.
Midterms should be done and the semester is at its midpoint. The typical thoughts behind spring break are for vacations to a beach or resort. But we know that’s not best for all students out there. Generation SUNY has some other ideas to make spring break fun, rewarding and achievable.

Ms. Dembinski grew up and continues to reside in Albany, New York. She attended Albany Academy for Girls and graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in Zoology. She spent 30 years at Sterling Winthrop Research Institute evaluating investigational medicines for heart failure and diabetes in humans. She also spent 20 years at Omnicare Clinical Research as project director.
After 50 years in medical research, Ms. Dembinski decided to pursue her love of cooking by enrolling in Schenectady County Community College‘s culinary program. She graduated at the top of her culinary class and currently works in the kitchen at Yonos Restaurant whipping up homemade breads and pastries, much to the delight of the customers and staff.
Ms. Dembinski is a sliver medal contest winner of the American Culinary Federations Annual Competition Classic held at Schenectady Community College and was on the team that won a Gold Medal at the Knowledge Bowl ACF Competition held in Hershey, PA.
Ms. Dembinski continues to travel, volunteer at the Equinox Thanksgiving Event and Honest Weight Food Co-Op. This past January, Ms. Joan Dembinski was the subject of a resolution adopted by the New York State Senate for her designation as recipient of the 2012 Arts and Culture Award by Senior Services of Albany.
