SUNY this week welcomed SUNY Student Assembly President-elect Tremayne Price as the newest member of the SUNY Board of Trustees. Mr. Price is a graduate student at the University at Albany who recently earned his bachelor’s degree at the campus.
“SUNY students are at the core of the university’s mission and it is critical that they are represented by an individual whose sole purpose on the Board of Trustees is to ensure that their collective voice is heard,” said SUNY Board Chairman H. Carl McCall. “We are happy to welcome Trey Price and look forward to working with him and the Student Assembly over the next year.”
The Student Assembly of the State University of New York is an organization of student leaders elected by their peers from all SUNY campuses. The Student Assembly is committed to empowering SUNY students throughout New York State and nationally as well as ensuring the highest quality of student life on each of the system’s 64 campuses.
The Student Assembly elected Mr. Price president this spring by his peers from across the SUNY system.
As a student member of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Price takes on all roles of a Board of Trustee member and holds the only student voting position, representing nearly a half-million students. Mr. Price is now also a voting member of the board for the Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC).
Chancellor Zimpher said, “With a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and Policy and one year toward a master’s degree in Education Administration already complete, Trey brings leadership experience to the post, as well as a deeper understanding of how students can get the most out of their higher education and help shape SUNY for future generations.”
Mr. Price, 23, is a native of Elmira, NY. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University at Albany and is currently enrolled in the school’s Education Administration and Policy Studies graduate program. Prior to being elected president of the Student Assembly, Mr. Price served as the group’s chief of staff for two consecutive presidents. At UAlbany, Mr. Price advocated for his peers on the University Council and was elected comptroller and chair of the senate for the Student Association.
Mr. Price will take office June 1, 2013; the next meeting of the SUNY Board of Trustees is scheduled for June 11, 2013. Watch clips of the swearing in ceremony below.
