30 Days of Giving 2013: Bringing Volunteerism to Scale

30 Days of Giving - 2013

The holidays remind us this is the season of giving. All members of SUNY make a concerted effort to volunteer and contribute to their respective campuses and local communities. The 30 Days of Giving campaign highlights students and faculty across all of our 64 campuses who participate in volunteerism and give back to those in need. With over 467,000 students and three million alumni, we want to celebrate the impact the SUNY community has made in all of their unique community service projects. As we learned last year, the byproduct of taking volunteerism to scale is not only building character in our students themselves as they join our over three million alumni, but also to set an example of impact as the nation’s largest university system.

Day 30

The 30 Days of Giving Campaign highlights stories about volunteerism and engagement at individual SUNY campuses. This has been the second annual campaign and a beautiful display of humanity and New York kindness stemming from college communities across the Empire State.

Given the always-connected world we now live in, the ability to become aware of and organize efforts around community needs is easier than ever. The volunteer events, programs, classes and projects that take place on individual campuses are almost innumerable with focus on engaging with community partners from k-12 schools, to veterans, to existing volunteer organizations, to student-led not for profit organizations. The impact by students on the communities surrounding their campuses does not end with volunteerism, but extends to other types of engaged learning like service-learning, cooperative education, internships, field work and engaged research. The impact that engaged learning has on students is undeniable.
