Food, rides, entertainment, and more! It’s now August, which means the Great New York State Fair is back again this year from August 23 – September 4. There will be games, prizes, and rides as far as the eye can see, and SUNY is coming back with a presence as well for the annual SUNY Day, this year taking place on Monday, August 28. Last year was a great day, and we’ll be sure to have the same great time this year.
In addition to SUNY Day, you will see SUNY scattered throughout the fairgrounds among the crowds and rows of booths through the whole fair! SUNY and our campuses provide some of the most entertaining and critical services at the fair:
- Upstate Medical University will be providing medical services at the fair. You can also visit them in the Science and Industry building to learn about the latest in medical treatments and tools found at the hospital in Syracuse.
- Cornell College of Agriculture and Life Sciences manages a live cow birthing center. It’s a great learning experience at the fair. Come see how our bovine friends give life to their next generation and learn all about how they take care of their young. But don’t worry, if you don’t want to wait all day, just sign up for text alerts and you’ll get a message when it’s time to head back for the big moment!
- SUNY Morrisville and SUNY Cobleskill will have space at the newly extended Taste NY Market featuring food and treats made by students and staff from the campuses. SUNY’s culinary talents will be on display and available for you to take with you as you explore rides and attractions throughout the fair.
- SUNY Morrisville also brings some of their horses for attendees to get up close and personal with. Morrisville, like other SUNY schools, has much to do with horses and equine management and training in New York State. From the Equine Rehabilitation Center to the variety of Equine Science programs, the industry has a bright future in New York State when colleges like Morrisville are involved. Come see how this takes place at SUNY.
Along with these specialty attractions, SUNY will have a booth for all fair attendees. All attendees who graduated from a SUNY campus can visit and reconnect with their schools to learn about what’s new and different since they left school. Help us learn which schools have the biggest presence at the fair on SUNY Day!
All interested potential students can also come and learn about the programs and learning opportunities at SUNY. With the new Excelsior Scholarship and the many learning opportunities at SUNY, there’s sure to be plenty of questions to ask. Many would think why visit a college booth at a state fair? Well there are many reasons.
- First, everybody is in a good mood at the Great State Fair! Our staff can answer all your question while enjoying great food and colorful treats, putting everyone in a better mood.
- Second, it never hurts to get a jump start on college information. Starting early ensures you have ample time to fill out all the materials and think about those essay topics. Since the fair signifies the end of summer, it is only appropriate to include some college attractions in your experience.
- Third and finally, giveaways! August 28th is SUNY Day at the NYS Fair. Staff will be on hand with giveaways from our campuses and SUNY, so come visit our booth!
If you can’t make it out to visit us, you will still be able to follow along with the day’s activities on social media using #SUNYAtTheFair. Start planning and enjoy the last few weeks of summer with us at the Great New York State Fair!
