Tompkins Cortland Community College culinary arts students, led by instructor Amanda Bisson, donated their labor and expertise to cater a farm to table meal, using locally sourced ingredients including donated produce from our TC3 Farm. The TC3 farm is part of Cortland’s sustainable farming program and supports four degrees that Tompkins Cortland Community College offers; Culinary Arts, Wine Marketing, Sustainable Farming and Food Systems, and Hotel and Restaurant Management. Students get hands on experience with farm management, pest control, and can also take courses that advocate for sustaining ecological relationships in the community.
The donated produce went to the Groundswell Center for Local Food & Farming: empowering people with skills, knowledge, and access to resources, to build a more diverse, equitable and environmentally sustainable food system. Their 2nd annual “Sunset Soiree” fundraiser was help on September 21st 2018, as a farm to table dinner at the Groundswell incubator farm. Groundswell incubator farm program helps new farmers with starting up a new farm. From resources such as land, irrigation, farming tools, and a supportive community, the program gives back to the community in every way possible.
