This fall, the Alpha Gamma Rho chapter at SUNY Cobleskill performed volunteer service at the Iroquois Indian Museum, located in Howes Cave, a few miles east of Cobleskill. More than 20 students in Alpha Gamma Rho performed at least 10 hours of service at the Museum this fall. Their responsibilities evolved from grounds upkeep and building maintenance to exhibit preparation, hanging and displaying artwork, and artifact relocation.
Alpha Gamma Rho defines itself as a “fraternity sharing a common bond within a dynamic, global agriculture committed to fostering the highest values and providing each and every brother with superior lifelong personal development and professional success.” Guided by a fundamental value to “foster lifelong personal development through innovative educational, leadership, and social opportunities,” the fraternity’s SUNY Cobleskill chapter pursues academic excellence and embraces public service outreach initiatives to assist community organizations.
Led by students like Thomas Coene and Jared Saville, among other chapter members, these students are earning valuable curatorial, visual-display, and public outreach skills as a result of their service in this project. More than this, they are embodying the giving spirit that embodies the spirit of the season.
