Students at the College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) are committed to community service. ESF begins the fall semester with Saturday of Service, where first-year students are introduced to ESF’s community service spirit.
This fall, ESF collaborated with more than 20 community organizations on a variety of volunteer projects. Students worked with the city of Syracuse, New York State Parks, A Tiny Home for Good, Syracuse Grows and Onondoga Earth Corps. Days of service at ESF have culminated in more than 2,000 hours of hands-on community service. These efforts positively impacted the Syracuse community while providing ESF students with experience and knowledge of what it means to be an environmental steward.
On one service day, students braved chilly temperatures to help plant 70 trees at Pratts Falls in Manlius, New York. The students planted new species of trees to replenish the ash trees lost to the invasive Emerald Ash Borer.
Across SUNY, students, faculty and administration alike are coming together to in the spirit of charity and togetherness. 30 Days of Giving is our annual tradition, which starts on Thanksgiving every year, where we reflect on efforts of the past year and highlight some of the selfless acts of that members of the SUNY community are leading. Stay tuned for more.
