SUNY Empire State College is committed to giving back to the communities they serve. With strategically positioned locations across New York, they have ample opportunity to make an impact all over the state. Whether it’s pet supplies for the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in the Capital District or toiletries for veteran transition shelters on Long Island, Saratoga, and Rochester, SUNY Empire helps New Yorkers in need, wherever they live.
Starting in late 2020, the school began zeroing in on a monthly giving theme that related to an event, a holiday, or an awareness initiative. In February, a Souper Bowl to collect canned soup for soup kitchens was held. In March, Women’s History Month was honored by collecting necessities for women’s shelters. In May, they commemorated Memorial Day with drive-throughs for veterans in need of basic supplies.
The activities didn’t just focus on collecting goods. During Autism Awareness Month in April, SUNY Empire partnered with the Anderson Center for Autism to hold a virtual art show. The Rochester site was opened early for early voting and Election Day in late October and November. And in December, the school will once again participate in Wreaths Across America.
SUNY Empire has enjoyed giving back throughout 2021. The commitment to creative ways to help those who are less fortunate and to strengthen the communities served will remain strong in 2022 and beyond.
