Community service and engagement is a long standing tradition at Nassau Community College. This year, NCC continued its annual “Day of Service” at the end of the spring semester with its 10th annual day-long celebration to serve those in need and honor NCC on-site workers who have unselfishly dedicated their time over the pandemic, including 30 nursing students who serve on NCC’s Surveillance Testing Program team.
A decade ago, NCC’s “Day of Service” was developed by the College’s First Year Experience Program with the goal of bringing together the NCC community, administration, students, faculty and staff, to volunteer their time and talents to help those in need. For this year’s celebration, the NCC Fashion Club, working with local high school students, created a digital button to commemorate the 2021 celebration. The image was incorporated into a pin that was distributed to all of our NCC frontline faculty, staff, and student aides involved in the COVID testing process on campus.
Additional projects for NCC’s Day of Service included a children’s book drive, a campus cleanup with Covanta, an animal shelter donation drive as well as a donation drive for the Nest, NCC’s on-campus food pantry.
