Tompkins Cortland Community College students, faculty and staff learned how a bar of soap can make a big difference for victims of human trafficking, joining forces with the SOAP Project.
In November, volunteers came together and placed 2,800 stickers that contained trafficking helpline numbers on bars of soap. The SOAP Project distributes the products to hotels, motels, and gas stations into the hands of those that need help. The SOAP Project is specifically focused on educating the public to increase awareness of the prevalence of human trafficking in communities across the United States and prevent teens from being victimized by domestic sex trafficking.
The TC3 event was organized by faculty member Margaret DeGaetano, a math/meteorology professor. She engaged with the entire community and arranged for representation from faculty, staff, and students at the event. Specifically, TC3 President Kremenek, the men’s soccer team, student government, and a student religious group brought large numbers to the event.
