Midterms should be done and the semester is at its midpoint. The typical thoughts behind spring break are for vacations to a beach or resort. But we know that’s not best for all students out there. Generation SUNY has some other ideas to make spring break fun, rewarding and achievable.
Read below to see 5 InterestingThings to do During Spring Break.
- An alternative spring break is when a group of college students commit to community service their week off. Your group can travel to areas of need, like New Orleans or Detroit, or stay close to home and jump on a Habitat for Humanity project.
- Make the local library your best friend. Sure, you may not maximize the storage on your camera this year, but you will certainly have a leg up on the rest of your class for the remainder of the semester! (It is probably a good idea to get started on that term paper, anyway.)
- Traveling abroad is the quintessential spring break. Whether it’s someplace in Europe, Australia, or Brazil, the experience is sure to create memories! If you haven’t booked a trip already, you may be better off planning for next year, though! (Or try a SUNY Study Abroad program)
- Stay inside and warm up. Let’s be honest—whipping wind on every inch of SUNY Oneonta, constant breezes on UAlbany’s podium, and below freezing temperatures at SUNY Plattsburgh’s campus puts everybody in a sour mood after three months. Get the blood flowing again by taking a trip to New York City (maybe via Metro-North RR) to visit the American Museum of Natural History or pencil in an art event from The New York Times’ Arts & Entertainment Guide.
- Rest up: Take some time to unwind(!) this spring break. You should relax and let your brain rest for an evening or two; after all, you probably just finished midterms and have been putting in extra hours at your internship! Why not take some “me” time to catch up with that book you haven’t read yet or the movie you haven’t had time to see. Taking some time to decompress could invigorate you for the stretch run of the semester.
