The University at Albany will be highlighted both on and off the court this weekend at the 2012 America East Basketball Championships in Hartford, CT.
R.A.C.E. (Reclassifying All Children Equally), a UAlbany student group founded by UAlbany senior, Joel Livingston, has been nominated as a finalist for the Newman’s Own Foundation Community Service Challenge grant. Livingston has served as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region since 2010. Under Livingston’s leadership, nearly 100 UAlbany students now mentor underprivileged youth in the Capital District.
Newman’s Own sponsors the America East Championships and will be awarding the community service grant during the semifinals of the women’s tournament on Sunday. This is the second consecutive year UAlbany has been a finalist for the award. At the 2011 championships, student-run group Third World Impact was a winner of the grant.
The America East Championships quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will take place in Hartford from March 2-4. For more information visit the America East Championship Central homepage.
