30 Days of Giving: Taking Volunteerism to Scale
Beginning Monday, November 26, SUNY will be pinning stories of giving, service, and kindness originating from each of our 64 campuses and the communities that these schools are a part of.
With over 467,000 students, SUNY consistently takes advantage of the opportunity it has to be a significant impact in communities across New York State. The 30 Days of Giving campaign is a great way to recognize students and community partners involved in the many projects that happen all year round at each SUNY campus and their surrounding communities. The byproduct of taking volunteerism to scale is not only building character in our students themselves as they join our over three million alumni, but also to set an example of impact as the nation’s largest university system.
Orange County Community College
Adopt a Family continues bringing joy and hope to those less fortunate. SUNY Orange’s Adopt a Family program is in its 10th season, over the past nine years, the SUNY Orange community has adopted a total of over 520 families, or 1,750 individuals. This year’s campaign adopted 67 families and 295 individuals, with participation from 21 departments, 12 clubs and 17 individuals on campus.
Each family that is adopted is asked to complete a “wish list” as a guide for the adoptees to use when purchasing gifts. The packages are wrapped and placed in a decorated box for delivery to the family. In addition to gifts, an effort to raise money to purchase Shop Rite grocery gift cards for each family is also put together.
