Give a Veteran a Smile is a yearly event organized by the Farmingdale State College Department of Dental Hygiene. Freshmen and sophomore dental hygiene students along with adjunct and full-time faculty gathered on Friday, November 9th in honor of Veterans Day 2018 to assemble packages of personal hygiene items for veterans who have fallen on hard times. Donations of items for the packages were accepted from dental hygiene students, FSC students, adjunct and full-time faculty, and purchased with financial support from community businesses.
Two hundred and fifty packages were assembled and picked up by United Veterans Beacon House, Inc. that afternoon. Beacon House provides services for homeless veterans. Following the packaging of these items students were treated to talks by active duty military personnel as well as military veterans. Give a Veteran a Smile was created by retired Professor Emeritus Adele Spencer, RDH several years ago, and continues strong today. This year’s event was organized by Professor Janet Gruber and Dr. Lawrence Pizzitola.
