Hello! My name is Atiba Archibald and I’m one of the new social media interns at the Office of New Media at SUNY System Administration for the fall semester. I am a senior at the University at Albany, with a major in English and a minor in Communications. I will be graduating in May 2015, which is very bittersweet as I do not want to leave a place that held such great experiences for me. However I am also excited to move on and start an exciting career (hopefully in PR!)
If I could describe myself in one word I would say that I am a writer. I have been writing since I was very young: everything from picture books to novels to poetry. Once I came to the University at Albany I really honed in on my writing skills, and even joined a group on campus called Phenomenal Voices where I was able to do spoken word in front of large audiences. This really helped me come out of my shell and gain a lot more confidence.
Apart from writing I also enjoy listening to music (by going to Drake concerts!) and traveling with my friends and family. I’ve gone to four Caribbean Islands, including Jamaica which is where half of my family is from and also a handful of states. However I still would like to cross California, London, Paris, and Ghana off my list.
I’m very excited to be starting my internship here at the Office of New Media, as it is similar to the career path I am pursing. I hope to learn a lot about the logistics of using social media to reach large audiences for promotional and business purposes. And of course I’m looking forward to writing a lot more blog posts!
