Finally, the new year has arrived! Another 365 days of new experiences and endless opportunities. While we mourn the ending of the holiday season, this is the perfect time to make new resolutions that will have you on the right track for good grades, self-improvement, and a great 2015. Look forward to making 2015 a year of positive achievements and experiences, no matter where you are, by setting some goals for yourself that you know you can achieve with a little bit of effort.
We’ve come up with some great options for resolutions below:
1. Take some personal time
Sometimes you need to take a break from all the work, clubs, and people that at times make life a bit stressful. Don’t be afraid to take a day to lay in bed while watching an entire season of a T.V. show on Netflix. Even a morning jog/walk around campus might help clear your mind from all the responsibilities that await you. Taking a short break every now and then could be just what you need to stay at the top of your class and complete all your school responsibilities with great results.
2. Try to exercise routinely
Whether you plan on exercising at the gym or in your dorm room, it is always a good idea to keep active. Make time in your week for at least one day of exercise. While exercising might be seen as a way of losing weight, it is also a way to reduce stress and even improve your focus. This might be the answer to not only staying away from the freshman 15, but maybe even improving your grades!
3. Do something you’ve never done
SUNY schools provide endless opportunities for all students. There is always something new awaiting your arrival. This year make sure to take a fun or interesting class, go hiking in one of the many New York State parks near campus, or maybe even visit an attraction that’s somewhere new to you. When the opportunities to expand your skills and experiences are present, take advantage!
4. Give back to others
All over the state, SUNY students are giving back to their community. Planting gardens, donating food, and holding a free summer camp for local children are only a few ways our students have given back. Giving back to others not only benefits the community that you inhabit, but also helps you develop new skills after college.
5. Meet new people
Upperclassman or underclassman, it is never too late to make a new friend. Expanding friend groups may grant you with new perspectives on life, as well as broaden your ability to network for a future job. You never know what might happen or what connections you may make when you meet someone new.
