SUNY continues to be proud of its high-quality institutions as US News & World Report this month released its college rankings for 2013.
SUNY dominated the Top 25 list in Top Public Schools – Regional Universities, North: Geneseo at No. 2; New Paltz at No. 7; Oneonta tied at No. 11; Fredonia tied at No. 14; Oswego tied at No. 16; Brockport at No. 19; Cortland tied at No. 21; and SUNYIT at No. 24. Plattsburgh, Buffalo State and Potsdam also placed in the top 50 schools.
In addition to the North category, some SUNYs also took spots on the list of the Top Public Universities Nationwide. These include the College of Environmental Science and Forestry at No. 32; Binghamton University at No. 37; and Stony Brook University at No. 40.
“We are delighted to see so many SUNY schools ranked among the nation’s ‘Best Colleges’ by U.S. News & World Report again this year,” said Chancellor Nancy Zimpher. “In New York, Governor Cuomo and our public colleges have worked very hard to provide an education of the highest quality that is both affordable and accessible.”
And Governor Andrew Cuomo agrees. “These rankings confirm what is already well known here in New York, that SUNY is a top quality public institution, open to anyone who desires to pursue a higher education and gain the tools needed to succeed in today’s economy,” Cuomo said.

I can vouch for SUNY ESF on the campus of Syracuse University. After graduating from high school on Long Island in 1948 and serving 4 years in the U.S. Navy, I was accepted at The College of Forestry in 1956. After taking many hours of chemistry at SUNY and SU, I graduated with a B.S. in chemistry in 1960 and an M.S. in polymer Science in 1962. This allowed me to pursue a career in polymer research/management at Battelle Memorial Institute for over 50 years. What a wonderful and valuable opportunity—Thank you New york!
