As technology develops further each year, educators have grown to use new online teaching methods to better suit those with busy schedules looking to earn a degree. To further identify some of the best options for aspiring students, U.S. News and World Report recently evaluated over 1,200 online degree programs to compile their official rankings of the “2016 Best Online Programs.” These rankings have been subdivided into several categories, including Best Bachelors, MBA, and Graduate Business among others. Unsurprisingly, there were quite a few SUNY schools which popped up on the list.
U.S. News and World Report assess their rankings based on criteria including student engagement, faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, admissions selectivity, and peer reputation. Each program category placed different values to which ranking indicators were most important in assessing that program. The information regarding these criteria was gathered from questionnaires sent to accredited institutions that offered degrees in the program category being evaluated. The data collected from these surveys was then calculated and eventually scaled between zero and 100.
A total of nine SUNY schools were identified on the list of “2016 Best Online Programs” within several categories. This is in part thanks to the system’s online learning initiative program, Open SUNY. This online learning environment offers courses from all 64 SUNY campuses, allowing students the flexibility and accessibility to enroll in classes that fit their needs and interests. Open SUNY offers students the ability to take classes available at any SUNY campus, anywhere at anytime. The program offers over 150 online degrees ranging from Computer Security to Art Education.
