From the #MeToo movement and female-organized protests to the increase in the number of women running in politics, 2018 is shaping up to be the year of women. Part of this female-centered focus includes the ongoing discussion of the glass ceiling and the lack of female representation in positions of influence, particularly in STEAM (Science, Technology, English, Arts, Math) fields. And while progress has certainly been made over the years, there is a lot more to be had. So what can you do to help keep things moving forward? Well, attending the Moves Millennial Forum is a great start.
In order to effect change and inspire generations of women to come, SUNY is partnering with New York Moves to host a daylong panel and series of open floor discussions on Thursday, May 10th at the SUNY Global Center in New York City. The forum will cover topics centered on the importance of women being in positions of influence as well as the promotion of STEAM curriculum within SUNY System. This is the perfect opportunity to learn about how to get active with this cause and join the conversation happening nation-wide. Not to mention, some pretty notable celebrity guests will be in attendance for you to meet:
- Aubrey Plaza (Legion, Criminal Minds)
- Olivia Munn (X-Men, Newsroom)
- Kelsey Asbille (SpiderMan, Teen Wolf)
- Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes)
If you still need convincing to attend, the itinerary includes a number of panel discussions, featuring strong female leaders from Aflac Incorporated, Google, Twitter, the United States Army, and more. Later in the evening, attendees will have the chance to receive free mentoring with Fortune 500 companies, win free trips to Dutchess County business start-ups, and take part in free one-on-one sessions with celebrity guests. Not to mention, the event is fully refundable for all SUNY students upon attendance. You just need to bring your college ID with you.
