The wait is almost over! On July 23, the New York Jets will be returning to SUNY Cortland for their preseason training camp. This will be the 5th time in Head Coach Rex Ryan’s tenure that the team will be training at the upstate New York college.
“I love the fact that we are going back to Cortland,” Ryan said in a statement from the team. “Everyone knows how I feel about going away. I think it is a big part of building our team camaraderie. The community, the school and the people of Cortland have been outstanding and we are all excited to be going back this summer.”
The decision to return to the upstate New York campus was up for debate earlier this year. The Jets looked into to other options, but ultimately decided to return to SUNY Cortland.
The team returned, they say, to escape the chaos of their everyday lives and to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding areas. Players enjoy the escape and love heading into town for food and to unwind.
Between the fans and the players, the Training Camp’s economic impact was nearly $3.7 million four years ago, according to a study conducted by economists at the College. It is likely that the impact this year will be similar.
SUNY Cortland and the Jets expect tens of thousands of fans to visit the practices during the camp. Admission to the practices is free, and the schedule can be found here.
